The local cuisine is simple,
healthy and widely appreciated; no doubt down to good local produce and
eating according to the season.
The local diet is based on a
high consumption of fruit and vegetables, bread, wheat and other
cereals, olive oil, fish and red wine. This makes them high in proteins,
monounsaturated fat and dietary fibre. As olive oil is used rather than
saturated fats, most dishes are rich and full flavoured but healthy.
A local favourite is based on
the rice grown on the delta together with the locally caught fish,
prawns and other seafood and meat provide the basic ingredients for the
traditional local fare. If you dont fancy that weve also got
hamburgers, pizzas, Chinese, kebabs...

We
particularly enjoy going for tapas, and there are quite a number of good
places in Sant Carles to go. The photo on the right was taken in "La
Bodega", a particular favourite. The owners' family originally came from
Zaragoza, so the tapas have the distinctive ingredients and tastes from
the interior north of Spain. Another, called ""El Barril" (The Barrel)
is owned by a local fisherman who catches the shellfish himself in the
morning then serves it in his bar in the afternoon. There isn't as much
choice as in La Bodega, but it is all the freshest and tastiest in town. |
